For the last two years, Sophia Brown and I have worked with Embarc to design their huge and carnavalesque annual fundraising gala. Coming in for the third year, we knew that the direction for their 10th annual had to be a departure from previous years and much bigger than anything we've ever done before.
We wrangled the unwieldy name in big marquee style, juxtaposing it with jazzy motown-inspired typography, elegant photography, and big bursts of color that simulated the look and feel of being at the event.
Two months before VS2020, when we would be wrapping up the signage and projector graphics, the event was cancelled due to COVID. Parts of the campaign identity were adapted for a digital fundraising event that occurred later that year.
